PTO, you?

Welcome to Prussing!

Are you a parent or guardian of a student at Prussing? Then you are also a member of the Prussing Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Don’t worry, you are not required to participate. But we would be grateful if you did! We would also be happy to see you at one of our meetings or events.

What is the PTO?

The Prussing PTO is a nonprofit, volunteer parent/teacher organization whose membership includes all parents, legal guardians and staff at Prussing Elementary School. The PTO’s mission is to promote open and positive communication and understanding between parents and staff of the Prussing Elementary School.

What does the PTO do?

The PTO provides financial assistance to teachers in their classroom settings, organizes fund-raisers for supplemental educational materials and experiences, and supports school and family social interaction. It is our belief that the team effort of a PTO offers the best possible learning environment for our children.

Why do we need to raise money?

Unfortunately our country’s government does not prioritize public education and does not provide resources to adequately cover all of the needs of the students and teachers. It is up to the PTO and the community to fill in the gaps.

We raise money in order to provide teachers and students with the supplies they need; with enriching experiences such as field trips, musicals, art projects and dances; and with creating a beautiful environment in which to learn.

Some of the projects we have worked on in the past include:

• Lending libraries
• Beautification efforts: Gardening, cleaning, decorations for the school, etc.
• Run-a-thons
• Fall dances
• Movie nights
• Game nights
• Coffees with the Principal
• Music programs
• End of the school year celebrations

Participating with the PTO is easy. Do you have an idea? Is there a program you would like to see at Prussing? Come to a meeting, send an email, and talk to us in person. We are always looking for volunteers to share new ideas and help with our projects and events.
